Tako Tsubo Vinyl
Tako Tsubo: "Broken heart syndrome" is manifested by a deformation of the heart due to an excess of emotion, whether intense sadness or overwhelming joy.
At L'Impératrice, Tako Tsubo is not having a heart strong enough for the times, for life. The second album of the phenomenal group, worthy heirs of the French Touch who have built an international aura in recent years, is like a heart that beats very strongly but with a discontinuous pulse.
Between two sold-out Olympias and on stages around the world, stopped dead by the virus just before the famous Coachella Festival, from her tours L'Impératrice has kept the taste for dance, the groove laid on a virtuoso bass, vintage synths and glittery melodies.
But Tako Tsubo is also a break-up album. Moving away from the confines of French song, L'Impératrice composes tracks that play with structures, like the heart that skips every other beat on Anomalie bleue in a lovelorn frenzy.
The elegance of the production is added to a solar vibration, coming from California, a warm breath like the colors of a twilight on the Pacific, underlined by the mix of Neal Pogue, sculptor of the sounds of Outkast, Stevie Wonder or Tyler the Creator.
Hematoma, Submarine, Crazy, Fear of Girls, The Tightrope Walker… A 13-track ode to ambivalent love, doubts, euphoria, heartbreak, success and madness: so many symptoms which, taken together, designate Tako Tsubo syndrome.
So many changing currents that we play with, leaving the heart shaken, overwhelmed, (re)inflated. More alive than ever.
